Psychotherapy

Approach

Kintsu Counselling Services operates from a client-centred perspective where therapy is tailored to your needs. Dawn will support you in gaining self-awareness, defining your values, and developing strategies to enhance your well-being. Dawn will connect with you in a manner that demonstrates mutual respect, trust, and utmost confidentiality. In sessions you will receive open ears and an open heart, powerful questions, and a safe, supportive environment.

The Therapy Process

The first phase of the therapy process is centred around building a trusting relationship between the client and therapist, and understanding your concerns and goals. Dawn uses interventions that support individuals in making sustainable lifestyle changes, learning healthy stress management and emotion regulation skills, adopting more positive thinking patterns, and cultivating self-compassion.

Your Rights in Therapy

You have the right to respectful therapeutic care. You have a right to every respect and consideration of your privacy and individuality. You also have a right to discuss your therapy plan, goals, and the estimated length of therapy. You may choose to end therapeutic services at any time.

Psychotherapy Services

Individual psychotherapy

Dawn’s current schedule allows for sessions to be scheduled on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesdays. Sunday appointments are reserved for those who are unable to attend weekday sessions. The frequency of sessions is mutually agreed upon and is conducted in an open-ended fashion.

Dawn provides a holistic and eclectic therapeutic method. She does not believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach. She draws from a variety of therapeutic modalities such as: compassion-focused, somatic experiencing, internal family systems, motivational interviewing, and emotionally focused individual therapy.

Group psychotherapy

*The group is currently on hold. This group is for all women and non-binary individuals who are interested/comfortable in a space that centers around the experiences of women. The main themes of this group are exploring shame and building self-worth. Group members have an opportunity to develop the skills required to better manage the areas in their lives where they may be feeling stuck or lost. This process involves feedback from a trained therapist and through therapeutically guided interactions among group members. It also offers intensive self-exploration and reflection.

Group cohesion occurs once the members begin to experience a sense of belonging. This is an open processing group where members graduate once they have reached their personal goals.
